As with many things, patience is often a virtue. I worked my line for about 10 minutes in this “Rock Garden” before I lost mine. I had nestled in between a literal rock and a hard place and was making 3″ progress forward and back. The kicker was resting my passenger side side flare on the rear tire against a rock. My ONLY alternative to ripping it off, was to get out the jack and start stacking rocks. I decided to pull it off.
There is a reason you have BIG MEATS (tires) on your rig. It is so you can put a tire on big bumps and drive over them!
There may have been a little emotion involved, and impatience, but the resulting work required to fix that was…a lot.
This video can also be called: “Fixing your Stupid Mistake”.
There is a reason you have BIG MEATS (tires) on your rig. It is so you can put a tire on big bumps and drive over them!
I learned this lesson again a few weeks ago. I saw big stump on the trail and thought, “sure, I can straddle that”. BAAAAAM! Rig stopped dead, and I was thrown against my seat belts!
It may be counter intuitive, but drive on it, not over it! When picking a line, put your tire on the high rock and drive over it. Don’t drag your pumkin over the rocks (or your fender!).
Dont straddle the bump!
Those BAAAAMs are what loosens and causes deflection in the axle housings and other components. Internal reinforcement, gussets, and trusses help reinforce the housings and assemblies. Depending on your tire size, going over an obstacle can be just as destructive if your vehicle is not prepared for the stresses.
Agreed!
